Julien Roh est un musicien valaisan polyvalent qui partage ses activités entre son instrument de prédilection, l’alto, la direction, la composition et l’enseignement. Il est titulaire d’un diplôme d’enseignement avec mention excellent et félicitations du jury, classe de Jean-François Michel, ainsi que d’un Master of Arts HES-SO en direction d’ensembles d’instruments à vent, classe de Jean-Claude Kolly. En tant que directeur musical il a dirigé les fanfares Union Instrumentale d’Ayent-Anzère, Echo de la Dent-Blanche des Haudères, Perce-Neige d’Hérens, Union Instrumentale de Forel/Lavaux, Echo de la Vallée de Val-d’Illiez, l'association des fanfares Echo du Mont d'Aproz et Helvétia d'Ardon, l’Espérance de Charrat ou encore le Brass Band Junior Valaisan et le Brass Band de Lyon.
Issu du milieu des fanfares et brass bands (fanfare La Lyre de Conthey, Ensemble de Cuivres Valaisan), il se distingue lors de nombreux concours de solistes, dont champion suisse toutes catégories en 1998 et « Best Horn » lors de l’European Solo Competition en 2001. Il participe à différents projets musicaux, allant de la musique traditionnelle à la musique contemporaine, en passant par le jazz. Il est très impliqué dans la promotion de l’alto, notamment par les enregistrements URBANICITY (2013) et UNPLUGGED (2019), ou encore l’organisation du 1er Swiss Alto Horn Festival (2019) en collaboration avec l’Association Suisse des Musiques.
Compositeur, Julien compte une quarantaine de pièces à son actif, dont certaines ont été enregistrées par l’ECV sur un double CD sorti en octobre 2010 et intitulé Music of Julien Roh & Ludovic Neurohr. Sa musique est mélodique, facile d’accès et très appréciée du public, tant en Valais qu’en Suisse et même à l’étranger. En 2016, il crée sa propre édition de musique, MY music edition, afin de promouvoir lui-même ses compositions et arrangements.

Julien Roh is a versatile musician from canton Valais, Switzerland, sharing his time between his favorite instrument, the Eb tenor horn, conducting, composition and teaching. He holds a teaching degree with highest marks and honors, class of Jean-François Michel, as well as a Master of Arts HES-SO in wind ensembles conducting, class of Jean-Claude Kolly. As a musical director he led the bands Union Instrumentale Ayent-Anzère, Echo de la Dent-Blanche Les Haudères, Perce-Neige Hérens, Union Instrumentale Forel/Lavaux, Echo de la Vallée Val-d' Illiez, the association of the Echo du Mont Aproz and Helvétia Ardon, Espérance Charrat or the Brass Band Junior Valaisan and the Brass Band Lyon.
Issued from the brass bands mid (Fanfare La Lyre Conthey, Ensemble de Cuivres Valaisan), he distinguished himself in numerous soloist competitions, including Swiss Soloist Champion in 1998 and “Best Horn” at the European Solo Competition in 2001. Komponist, hat Julien etwa vierzig Stücke zu seinem Kredit, von denen einige durch die ECV auf einer Doppel-CD Music of Julien Roh & Ludovic Neurohr im Oktober 2010 aufgenommen sind. Sein Katalog umfasst Musik verschiedener Stile und Schwierigkeitsgrade. Seine Musik ist melodisch, leicht zugänglich und von dem Publikum sehr geschätzt, sowohl im Wallis in der Schweiz und auch im Ausland. 2016 schuf er seine eigene Musikverlag MY music edition, um seine Kompositionen und Arrangements selbst zu promoten.
